Traditional garden benches are a great addition to any garden or venue.

We supply the National Trust and our oak benches can been seen at numerous national trust gardens and statley homes.

We use air dried oak for our benches which has been used for centuries as it is exceptionally hardwearing.

Air dried oak is distinctive because of the time it takes to prepare, which makes it less likely to split like green oak and less likely to swell like kiln dried oak, therefore perfectly suited to the rigours of outdoor life. 

Due to this our benches can be left untreated if desired.

The making process.

Each bench is made in a traditional way.

We have had the privilege to study and reproduce many benches from stately homes, which has given us insight into subtle details of design and craftsmanship which can sometimes be over looked these days.

Each peice of oak is chosen for strength and hardiness, as this is the foremost requirement for a longlasting garden bench.

We then craft each component, keeping in mind seasonal changes that could affect the completed bench.

When the bench is made, it is lightly dampened with water in order to 'raise the grain'.

Once the oak has dried the raised grain is sanded down and the process is repeated a futher two times. 

This ensures that when the bench gets wet the raising grain is kept to a minimum.
